The self-made cynic  (Bunnies!)
Bunnies!
Add to Memories Tell a Friend
A few weeks ago, Nicola noticed that a hole had been dug in the forget-me-nots next to the tree in our front yard. We assumed at the time that it was squirrels digging for food during the winter.

But yesterday, Nicola went out and looked to see if the hole had gotten any deeper and inside it was a whole nest of baby bunnies!

I was able to get pretty close up pictures of them. Here is one:

After I took this, I looked up and about ten feet away, the mother rabbit had come around the side of our neighbour's house and was peering at me. Obviously with extreme fear over how close I was to her babies.

When I saw the mother, I got up and left them alone. I'm going to check back tomorrow to see if they are still there.

We've had bunnies nesting around here too. They are creatures of habit and will return to the same nest every year, if you are willing to host them. So next year, more bunnies!

They eat everything in our garden, unfortunately.

But at this age, they are just too cute to get mad at.

I have now decided that everyone needs a basket full of bunnies.
Can I live in your yard with the bunnies? :P

Only if you bring carrots.

I will bring carrots...Buuuunnnieess!

We found a hole in our garden and another one about 8 feet away in the driveway. These were made by chipmunks.

Tania wanted me to put the hose down them and flush the critters out, and as I was doing it I asked her if she'd ever seen Caddyshack. She said no, so I kept my Bill Murray-esque comments to an internal monologue as I filled their holes with water.

I then crammed rocks down them. I don't want chipmunks burrowing under the driveway, you see.

A few days later, they'd tunneled around the rocks, making the hole even bigger.

Fail.

Flush them out! Have you ever seen the Watership Down movie?

Are you mad! And risk angering El-ahrairah?!?!

Those were bunnies. These are chipmunks. They are pagans who worship an entirely different (and evil) chipmunk trickster god-prince.

That's fabulous! Those bunnies are the cutest things ever.

Oh. My. God. That would be my dream come true, bunnies nesting in my yard. I'd happily sacrifice any garden I had to them. So worth it!
